Be Impeccable with your Word

Be Impeccable with your Word

Speak with Integrity

SAY ONLY WHAT YOU MEAN. AVOID USING THE WORD TO SPEAK AGAINST YOURSELF OR TO GOSSIP ABOUT OTHERS. USE THE POWER OF YOUR WORD IN THE DIRECTION OF TRUTH AND LOVE.

“The word is not just a sound or a written symbol. The word is a force; it is the power you have to express and communicate, to think, and thereby to create the events in your life . You can speak. What other animal on this planet can speak? The word is the most powerful tool you have as a human; it is the tool of magic. But like a sword with two edges, your word can create the most beautiful dream, or your word can destroy everything around you. One edge is the misuse of the word, which creates a living hell. The other edge is the impeccability of the word, which will only create beauty, love, and heaven on earth. Depending upon how it is used, the word can set you free, or it can enslave you even more than you know. Your word is pure magic, and misuse of your word is black magic.”

Honesty is the foundation for successful recovery; it begins with being honest with ourselves. From there it grows to encompass other aspects of our life, and one day we notice our lives our less complicated, requiring less energy to manage. Soon our heads start to rise and we begin to see a world full of possibility.

Being honest is only one part of being impeccable with our word; however, if your like me and being dishonest was a skill you learned at a very young age as a way to survive, then this may be a good place to start.

This is the best time to take the tools you learned in treatment and start utilizing them in your daily lives. In treatment you learned how to trust, you learned how to risk, and you learned how to feel. These are all attributes of honesty that now belong to you. No one can take them away. Put them in the top of your tool box where they are easy to access and practice them on a daily basis.

Best wishes,

As you walk forward into your sober life...place yourself in the exact moment of reality, NOW. Remember to focus on the now and to release the past. We only have power in this moment, and we can forgive the past. Take the power of now and move forward with joy into your next moment! Pat Toomey LPC
