Don’t Make Assumptions
Be aware of unconscious assumptions
ASSUMPTIONS ARE MADE SO AND UNCONSCIOUSLY MOST OF THE TIME BECAUSE WE HAVE AGREEMENTS TO COMMUNICATE THIS WAY. WE HAVE AGREED THAT IT IS NOT SAFE TO ASK QUESTIONS; WE HAVE AGREED THAT IF PEOPLE LOVE US, THEY SHOULD KNOW WHAT WE WANT OR HOW WE FEEL.
“We have the tendency to make assumptions about everything. The problem with making assumptions is that we believe they are the truth. We could swear they are real. We make assumptions about what others are doing or thinking – we take it personally – then we blame them and react by sending emotional poison with our word. That is why whenever we make assumptions, we’re asking for problems. We make an assumption, we misunderstand, we take it personally, and we end up creating a whole big drama for nothing”

If you like reading and living by The Four Agreements, "The New Earth" takes a closer look at the ego from the internal to the global perspective. Blessings!
This is a hard one in my recovery because I have to learn to trust myself and my instincts all over again.
If I find myself assuming something negative I try to stop myself and ask..is it true, do I know that it's true? Maybe not that way exactally, but I will try to put a positive spin on the situation.
I have the mini version of the 4 agreements next to my bed and re-read it everynight before I say my prayers and give my thanks.
Thanks to Sundace for giving my life back. I currently have 10 months of sobriety!! Hugs and kisses to Chuck, Melissa, Tammi J, Dr. Ravi, Lauren, Miso...and eveyone else. I can't wait for the BBQ!!
Assumptions are the problem with most situations. And it is true that you make yourself believe them. This can be a problem for people who have overcome their addictions and the family members around them. I went through this with my brother, you become super sensitive to their every action and can make yourself believe they are doing or taking things when they are not. Recovery is a process for the whole family and hopefully with Gods help we make it through the tough times so we can enjoy the good times.
